Happy New Year...and dates

ok, hello world.  Just getting this started here.  My blog focus seems to keep evolving, so my old photography blog will be redirected here (please bookmark me if you like).
Well, starting off the new year I wanted to share something we were super excited (well me more so probably;) to finally do.  We bulk ordered dates.  We usually buy them in bulk at the grocery, however I had been to a talk/demo by Ellen Livingston of LivingYogaNow where she prepared a snack for us and used dates that were WAY fresher than the ones we had been getting.  I called the lovely Date People and costed it out and with shipping they are cheaper than what we were currently getting and SOOOOO much fresher.  Another plus is that you can order different types, we ordered Barhis and I'm being honest they are one of the yummiest things ever.  I also understand dates are on the good side of the acid/alkaline chart and these barhis are low on the glycemic index.  We ordered 10 pounds, prepped them for storage in the fridge and should last us until summer for sure I'm guessing.
Alright, now for some photos =)

all packed up for the fridge (this is a rare occasion where I'll use plastic bags, Mom is going to be shocked!, the folks that grew these says it's the best way to store them).

ok, off to clean and prep kale chips, hot cocoa mix, and dinner!
Enjoy your day and thanks for reading.

a couple of photos from the last batch of kale chips (which Mom and I polished off in no time;) The recipe I used is Averie's from LoveVeggiesandYoga , we don't have a dehydrator so we crisped them up in the oven on as low as it would go.

ok, ok I'm going to clean now, but one more of a refreshing snack. A fresh cucumber slice with half a smooshed on top (got this idea from Ellen Livingston) This is a medjool from the grocery.
